The Super Taikyu Series is Japan's premier endurance racing championship, renowned for its fierce competition, technical diversity and iconic circuits including Suzuka, Fuji Speedway and Autopolis. Teams battle across multiple classes in races lasting up to 24 hours, making real-time data and live camera footage essential tools for every team on the grid.
Super Taikyu attracts a broad mix of manufacturer-backed teams and privateer squads, competing in everything from high-powered GT machines to production-based touring cars. The championship spans seven rounds across Japan's most celebrated circuits, drawing thousands of spectators and millions of viewers through its comprehensive broadcast coverage.
The endurance format means strategy and communication are just as important as outright pace. Knowing exactly when to pit, tracking live timing positions during extended stints, and being able to monitor driver performance remotely are the margins that separate a podium from a DNF.
OnboardCamera.tv has been present in the Super Taikyu paddock since our very first deployment in Japan in 2019 — a country that posed unique challenges due to its distinct LTE infrastructure compared to Europe. That pioneering commitment established us as a trusted technical partner for teams competing at the highest level of Japanese endurance racing.
Multiple teams competing in the Super Taikyu Series run our OnboardCamera systems in their race cars. Our technology serves three critical purposes: team training, race-day pit strategy, and live TV broadcast.
Teams use our onboard camera systems extensively during test days and practice sessions. Coaches and engineers can review live footage from outside the car while the driver is on track, giving instant feedback without waiting for the session to end. The HD broadcast-quality video reveals subtle details — steering input, braking points, track position — that in-car data alone cannot capture.
During endurance races, our live stream feeds directly into the pit wall. Engineers can watch the onboard view in real time, monitoring tyre condition, debris on track, or the car's behaviour through specific corners. This live insight is critical when deciding the precise moment to call the driver in — a well-timed pit stop in a long-distance race can be the difference between winning and finishing midfield.
The same camera signal used by the pit team flows seamlessly into the official Super Taikyu broadcast. Our system outputs a broadcast-grade HD SDI signal with an ultra-low latency of under 0.3 seconds — meeting the strict quality demands of live television. Broadcasters can cut to the onboard feed at any moment, giving viewers a visceral perspective directly from inside the car at over 200 km/h.
Our very first operational deployment was in Japan, and the challenge was significant: Japan's LTE network architecture differs considerably from European standards. We engineered our system specifically to operate reliably on Japanese networks, tested across Suzuka, Fuji and beyond. This experience makes our system uniquely proven for the Super Taikyu environment in a way no European competitor can match.
In addition to our broadcast camera technology, OnboardCamera.tv has developed an exclusive in-car display system specifically for Super Taikyu. Using the same LTE infrastructure as the camera, this system delivers real-time race information to both the driver inside the cockpit and to spectators watching from the grandstand — all without any additional wiring or hardware complexity.
A display mounted on the front windscreen, facing outward toward the grandstand and trackside cameras, shows spectators live race information as the car passes by.
A second display inside the cockpit gives the driver all the same position information, plus critical safety and race-status data that helps them make split-second decisions on track.
